long-form data storytelling

LinkedIn’s Global Talent Trends report provides data-driven insights into the changing world of work.

as creative director for this project, my role was to help the Monks team craft compelling narratives from huge swathes of data. we then had to weave those local insights— across seven regional markets —into the overall global narrative.

the biggest challenge i faced, and one that faces most data storytellers, was getting all stakeholders to buy into simplicity. for the writers, they want to flex their storytelling prowess; the designers wanted to present data-visuals in unique and challenging ways; while the client will push for more metrics, more breakdown, more information.

thankfully, a balance is always there to be struck, and in this case we created multiple assets around each market report, each with various levels of complexity depending on the audience. that way, everyone walks away happy. and each year, this involved the production of hundreds of assets, in multiple languages, some of which you can see below:

Team:
Creative Director: Steve O’Rourke
Associate Creative Director: James Stafford
Copywriters: Cormac Tierney and Emma Ridden
Designer: Clíona Horgan
Client Leads: Katie Dunne and Lauren Harris
